Gather Portland was created out of a love for entertaining and bringing joy to clients. Originally formed as Events by Gather in 2009, its presence in Portland quickly expanded. Katie Wilgus, known for her ultra-calm presence, built a brand known for its collaborative spirit – both with clients and vendors. With a rockstar team of design professionals, many of whom are “mompreneurs”, and all of whom are fiercely dedicated to giving 110% to their work, the merger with GATHER Events has been a harmonious opportunity for expansion. Portland is known for its abundance of award-winning food purveyors and local makers; you can often find the team out and about helping clients wow their guests by connecting them with amazing resources throughout the city. Whether its a wedding, social event, corporate party, or celebration of life, these Gather Girls are ready to help their clients make magic.

Katie is the founder of GATHER Portland. Her creative spirit, intuitive nature and sense of calm puts clients at ease. Katie has been planning events her entire career, with a foundation in planning meetings and fundraisers for some of Portland’s most noted leaders and civic stakeholders. As a project manager in the non-profit sector, Katie had the opportunity to hone in on her true passion – bringing people together to produce amazing results. Weddings enabled her to partner this passion with her creativeness, and she never looked back. Katie is a dedicated philanthropist. She is the Vice-President of the Board for the Beaumont Business Association, she sits on the Patient and Family Advisory Council for the Broadway Medical Clinic, she is a member of P.E.O. International (an organization dedicated to the advancement of women), and is a proud supporter of The Imani Project, a partnership dedicated to acting against HIV/AIDS and improving health conditions in rural Kenya. Katie’s husband and two children are her heart and soul. As a family, they enjoy tent camping (okay, maybe glamping), biking, and traveling to warm and sunny places.

Amber brings her creative edge, stylist’s eye and DIY resourcefulness to the Portland team as an event designer and planner. As a kid, she was always creating costumes and clothes, styling rooms, and making all types of art and crafts. Her art history and fashion design degrees led her into a career as a magazine stylist and market editor in New York, and then into set and production design in Los Angeles. After planning her own dreamy Pacific Northwest wedding in Portland, she realized that her styling and producing background plus keen organizational skills and attention to detail were the perfect ingredients for becoming a wedding designer. She loves that weddings celebrate traditions and love, foster community, while creating an intimate space to really show the uniqueness of each couple in a sensory, experiential way. She often says that there is nothing better than being a part one of the best days of a couple’s lives! Amber is always creating- whether working in her garden, experimenting in the kitchen or designing something new for her home. She is also passionate about environmentalism and loves spending time in nature with her husband, children and their close knit community of friends.

Sarah has spent her life thus far doing what she does best:  GATHER!  Whether it’s gathering inspiration, gathering experiences or gathering people together, she is constantly compiling ideas and plans to create beauty and foster collaboration and community.  Having officially started GATHER Events in 2003, Sarah has over a decade of experience in the events industry and is so incredibly grateful for and proud of the work that the GATHER team does.  From a fledgling dream in Seattle, to becoming a design focused LA event production brand, to the exciting West Coast collaboration of amazing women it’s become,  Gather Events has always been Sarah’s biggest passion project and she can’t imagine it any other way. If you’ve got your sights set on a destination wedding, Sarah’s your gal! When she’s not girlbossing (yes, that’s a word!) Sarah can be found spending hours in the kitchen, hiking in the woods, traveling to inspiring places and curating experiences for the people around her.
