Five French Chateau Venues to Host a Destination Wedding

Oh France! With its savoir fare and taste for la belle vie, it’s no wonder we flock to Gallic shores in droves to experience the crème de la crème of French cuisine, wine, art, fashion and scenery. France is home to some of the world’s most popular destination wedding venues for good reason!

Here you’ll find countless chateaus (or chateaux as it’s properly written), thanks to the centuries of wealth and splendor of the French aristocracy and the craftsmanship of its people. The only challenge is narrowing down the selection when shopping for a venue to host your destination wedding in France. Here are some of our favorite chateau venues to tie the knot in.

CHÂTEAU de Varennes

Nestled in the heart of the Burgundy wine country, Chateau de Varennes is known worldwide as one of the premier destination wedding chateaus in France. The venue boasts twenty bedrooms to host guests, a Michelin rated chef, a chapel and spaces that exude both historical beauty and modern luxury. The 18th century castle and garden is managed by the Varennes family who have owned the castle for the last two hundred years.

Only 40 minutes from Paris and resplendent with classic French grandeur, Chateau de Villette makes an ideal location for a French destination wedding. This French landmark is now owned by The Heritage Collection who is known for “restoring historic masterpieces” and converting them into luxurious boutique properties for rent. The chateau, set on 180 acres of parkland, can host up to 27 people overnight in their 14 suites and can accommodate large groups for events.

In the heart of Provence lies Chateau de Tourreau, a 17th century neoclassical architectural gem on a 20 acre estate that was recently the location of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ wedding. The property has a chapel, courts, fitness center, infinity pool, overnight luxury accommodations for 29 guests and numerous event spaces. All of which, in our mind, makes it a fantastic location to welcome your nearest and dearest for a destination wedding in the south of France.

The classic and authentic Chateau de Bouthonvilliers is located one and a half hours southwest of Paris, near the Loire valley. The 18th century castle, still owned and managed by the original family, is located on a large private parkland. The interior of the building features original details and furniture, harkening back to the romantic refinement of the French aristocracy of the era. The domaine can sleep 32, between both the castle and the cottage onsite. This charming chateau with its traditional beauty would be a delightfully secluded place to host a destination wedding in central France.

Chateau Saint Georges is a small chateau that overlooks Cannes and the medieval town of Grasse, the capital of perfume making. The villa was built in the 19th century by a wealthy perfumer on a 7.5 acre property in the heart of the French Riviera, and is noted for once hosting Queen Victoria. The exquisitely landscaped luxury estate boasts sea views, Mediterranean gardens, terraces, a spa, indoor pool, private chef and can host 14 guests overnight in 7 suites. A peek at the beautifully detailed interiors makes it clear why the chateau was coined “Le Petit Versailles”. You can read more about the house’s history in our blog post here.

This collection covers the whole of France, but if you’re looking at sunny Provence, here are a few favorites in that region!
