Color Block Party

We're ecstatic that we can finally share this shoot now that it is featured on Green Wedding Shoes!

When we sat down to plan this styled shoot, we knew we wanted to aim for something visually striking and even a touch avant garde. Our initial inspiration came from the bold use of colors and playful monochromatic palettes we found in high-fashion shoots and product styling campaigns. Something this daring is rarely represented in the bridal and event design world and we felt inspired and challenged to really push our limits and cross boundaries to find a way to bring in these modern concepts and translate them into a relatable event. From the bold installations to unconventional model styling, we wanted this to be a personal artistic expression as much as wedding design inspiration for future brides. We had the pleasure of working with For The Love Of It, who captured the vignettes marvelously.

Since our goal was to create something bold and break ourselves out of our “wedding comfort zone”, we went straight for bright vibrant colors which we then carefully color blocked and paired together. We created clean color-packed scenes composed of teal, bubblegum pink, persimmon, crisp white, goldenrod, and navy. Our zesty color palette had all the fun of summer with the moodiness of fall!

In the ceremony space, we didn’t want our couples to be confined in a traditional arch or structure, so instead we decided to create a whole environment that the models could interact with made of hanging laser-cut acrylic shapes and textural floral panels, that Felisa from Of the Flowers expertly crafted out of a mix of fresh and dried flowers that highlighted texture and form.

With the excellent local rentals available to us, we curated a perfectly punchy bubblegum pink lounge from Circa Vintage Rentals, and added in a mix of paper and floral fans in blush hues to create the exact amount of contrast against City Libre’s stunning modern concrete walls. Luxurious navy armchairs and a sleek golden bar cart provided us with the perfect sophisticated vignette for our models to serve up some serious attitude. Our navy, teal, and pink color blocked tablescape featured luxe velvet linen from La Tavola and chic minimalistic dinner and glassware from Borrowed Blu that produced a refined and whimsical scene. We teamed up with Spoken Glass to laser-etch menus on frosted pink plexi demi-circles that nestled flawlessly into our place settings.

Product styling is something we’ve grown to love more and more over the years. It allows us the opportunity to work on a small scale and make every aspect of the scene intentional. We designed a number of still lifes to showcase the incredible rings provided by Trumpet and Horn (with their color coordinated Mrs. Box’s) as well as the beautiful invitation suites from Swell Press.

Since we were pushing boundaries from a design perspective, we also wanted to do something unconventional with our models. We felt very strongly about showcasing diversity and representing as many demographics as possible so we brought in 3 brides and 2 grooms and mixed and matched the couples in each scene.

A highlight of the day, was styling one of our models with a funky white flower mohawk and vibrant yellow eyeshadow (thanks to our expert MUA Yuri Janice) before popping her into our white and goldenrod color blocked scene. For the other brides, we went with more natural hair and makeup looks because we wanted the incredible dresses from Loho Bride to shine. We intentionally picked dresses that had dramatic silhouettes and interesting fabrics so that the models would still be the center of focus in the midst of the wildly colorful props which surrounded them. Our male models looked dapper in their suits from The Black Tux
